The very real threat of Islamic terrorism for New Year’s Eve has put Western cities on lockdown with heavily-armed police and military personnel on patrol, and even more undercover cops mingling with the crowds. Law enforcement with submachine guns will be visible in cities including London, New York, Sydney and Berlin as millions of revelers gather to welcome in 2018.
Be sure to thank any Muslims you see out and about for endeavoring to make New Year’s Eve celebrations obsolete. The unprecedented costs of the heightened security measures and armed personnel necessary to protect New Year’s Eve revelers from Islamic terrorist attacks in some cities, are so prohibitively expensive, they are forcing cancellation of some public events to bring in the New Year.
New Year’e Eve (and all other non-Muslim holidays) are considered “haram” (forbidden) in Islam which is why Muslims try to avoid wishing you a Happy New Year, at best, and why the threat of Islamic terrorism is always a possibility, at worst.
ISIS vows New Year’s Eve attacks, says “We’re going to fight until we rule the whole world by the Sharia”
Church overlooking Sydney Harbour forced to cancel their popular New Year’s Eve fireworks party over TERROR fears – because they can’t afford the $10,000 bill for security and concrete bollards (“Allahu Akbarriers’) to stop an attack.
St Aidan’s at Longueville, on the lower north shore, had hired bands or put on an annual family-friendly sausage sizzle on the last day of the year since 1999.
The mowing down of pedestrians in Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall in January by a Muslim, which killed six people and injured 30 others, has changed the way people can enjoy the traditional Sydney Habour fireworks extravaganza.
Unprecedented security measures will be undertaken in New York City to protect the festivities on New Year’s Eve when close to a million revelers are expected to gather around Time Square to watch the iconic ball drop at midnight.
Over a 22-block area, streets and parking garages will be closed. The area will be sealed off with blocker cars and sand trucks. Trucks will also be banned from neighboring avenues. Access to the area will only be through 12 checkpoints manned with security teams bearing heavy weapons and specially-bred and trained bomb-sniffing (vapor wake) dogs.
The checkpoints will lead to pens. Revelers will be screened a second time while proceeding to the pens. No backpacks, large bags or umbrellas will be allowed.
Policing measures for New Year’s Eve have been ramped up after a string of terrorist attacks over the past year, to include undercover cops, armed police patrols, dog units and vehicle barriers are expected in the capital and throughout the Midlands and the North this Sunday night.
The crackdown comes after ISIS threats made on a propaganda poster to unleash “New Year’s Eve ‘hell’” in the city.
London was hit by four major terrorist incidents in 2017, including March’s attack on the Palace of Westminster which saw five people including PC Keith Palmer killed, and June’s attack at London Bridge, which left eight people including three terrorists dead.
In May, twenty-three people were killed and hundreds injured when lone wolf Salman Ramadan Abedi detonated a bomb in the foyer of Manchester Arena after an Ariana Grande concert.
A “safe zone” for women will be set up at the giant “party mile” in Berlin.
The measure comes after gangs of Muslim migrant men made coordinated assaults on women in Cologne and other German cities at public News Year’s Eve celebrations in 2015 and 2016. According to leaked police reports, police estimated that 2,000 Muslim men were involved in assaults on 1,200 German women across Germany on New Year’s Eve 2015.
Christian Loose, an opposition politician in North Rhine Westphalia, wrote: “If somebody had said a few years ago that soon it would only be possible to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Germany with platoons of police officers – and that Christmas markets must be particularly secured – they would have been called crazy. Now it is the status quo.”
Cities across Europe are on alert in the run-up to New Year’s Eve, as the threat of terrorist attacks continues to hang over the continent. Here is a look at plans in some Western European nations.
