Greens leader Richard Di Natale has caused outrage on his own Facebook page by posting a tribute to Muslims fasting for Ramadan (see video below). His video has sparked a flurry of criticism, with Facebook posts conflating it with last week’s Manchester suicide bombing which killed 22 people and injured more than 50.
UK Daily Mail (h/t Sara S) While Senator Di Natale had last week acknowledged the U.K. terrorist attack with a one line Facebook post, his tribute to Muslims fasting for Ramadan was a more elaborate video, saying ‘Ramadan’s a show of restraint and solidarity with fellow human beings who are less fortunate.’ (But only if they are Muslims)
In the aftermath of the Manchester bombing, Senator Di Natale issued a one-line Facebook post. ‘This news is tragic news from Manchester and our thoughts are with the British people,’ he said.
A series of Facebook posts have criticised the left-wing politician for being insensitive to the plight of Islamist terror victims, only days after British-born suicide bomber Salman Abedi killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.
Last year, the U.S. State Department noted that ISIS called for violence during the holy month of Ramadan. ‘According to Islamic practice, sacrifice during Ramadan can be considered more valuable than that made at other times, so a call to martyrdom during the month may hold a special allure to some,’ its Overseas Security Advisory Council said.
